It can be strange for some people to sleep in a place that they are not used to. We always want to welcome house guests and make them feel comfortable in our home. Going the extra mile to make your guests feel truly welcomed will mean so much for your guests and help them really enjoy their time in your home.
Make Sure They Have Everything They Need
Create a welcoming packet for them, with all of the things that they need to have. Leave it in your guest bedroom with a nice welcoming note. We suggest that you make sure that they have the following:
- Shampoo and Conditioner
- Soap or shower gel
- Lip balm
- Towels (Hand and Bath)
For the toiletries, you can find small reusable bottles. Also, make sure that their towels are distinctive, so that someone else in your family does not mistake it for their towel. Creating a packet such as this will make sure that they feel at home.
Have Food Available
Not only should you leave snacks in their welcome packet, but you should have food accessible to your guests. Families have different customs when it comes to refrigerator etiquette. Some families are insulted if a guest opens the refrigerator, and some families think that guests should be able to open their refrigerator and are welcome to anything in the fridge. Either way, guests may not feel welcome to open your fridge unless they have been given express permission. Make sure that you leave snacks and fruit on the countertop and make it very clear what they are welcome to eat. Make sure that they know where the cups, plates, and silverware are as well.
Offer Them Activities
With prolonged house guests in your home, you often cannot always be there to entertain them the entire time. Hosts often have work and errands while guests are in their home. Make sure that the guests have activities to keep them occupied while you are not in their home:
- Give them your wifi password
- Instruct them on how to turn on the TV
- Provide them with a map of your city with directions to popular places
- Offer them some of your favorite books
Simply because you have house guests does not mean that you need to have a separate guest bedroom. Many families have turned certain rooms in their homes into guest bedrooms simply by adding a wall bed to a room that they may not necessarily need. Having a quality murphy bed can be even better than having a permanent bed in a room. It can be stowed away when it is unnecessary, but it makes guests feel that they have a bed of their own when it is necessary. Some families have created multipurpose rooms by turning their home office into a guest bedroom through a bed desk. However, a wall bed is a great option for any room in your house. A wall bed can be customized for your home’s style and your family’s needs.
