Children need more space than you realize. Their rooms need to play double duty as a playroom and a bedroom. With toys, clothes, beds, and furniture, there is often not enough space to store everything and still have enough room for your kids to enjoy their space. We have a few ideas for parents that may make space saving a little easier.
Place Double Rods in Their Closet
Since most children’s clothes are fairly small you can often have 2 levels of rods in their closet without their clothing touching the ground. This can also make it very easy to separate different kinds of clothing. For example you can place their entire summer wardrobe in the lower rack and the winter wardrobe on the upper rack.
If you need some extra floor space, use the wall to store things. Place hooks on the walls where kids can store bags, jackets, and other items. Hooks can be beneficial to keep things off of the ground and use the most space throughout the room. If you get large bags to hang on the wall, you can hang the child’s hamper or school bags. Hooks help kids stay organized and they let you be a little creative with storage space.
Have Multipurpose Furniture
A Murphy Sofa can work as a bed at night and then a sofa during the day. There are other multipurpose furniture pieces such as storage ottomans or chests that can double as storage space for toys as well as seating. This can also be another way to organize the toys. Keeping them low to the ground will allow your kids to learn to help organize. You can place certain types of toys in one ottoman, and then place different toys in another ottoman.
Multipurpose furniture is an excellent idea, because floor space is not taken up by extra pieces of furniture. If you can find multipurpose furniture items that you can stack on top of each other. It makes it even easier to create more floor space.
Get a Murphy Bed
There are some great folding beds that can easily be slipped into the wall and easily taken out in the evening. If you have multiple kids sharing a room, you may want to consider getting a bunk bed instead. A bunk bed is also a great option for kids that always have friends staying overnight.
Just because your child has a smaller space does not mean that they cannot enjoy the space that they have. Be creative with their room to find other ways to save space. Doing small space saving things can make a huge difference. If they are old enough, let them help with the decorating and choosing out the colors that they want. Remember that it is their room and that they are going to want to express themselves. Make sure that you do get quality items that can take some wear and tear, as kids can be a little rough at times. Have fun playing with your kids in their beautiful bedroom!
